VATICAN CITY, NOV. 21, 2011 (Zenit.org).- The International Theological Commission will begin its plenary session a week from today, continuing its study of three main themes.
The commission is presided over by the prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Cardinal William Levada.
The Nov. 28-Dec. 2 meting will be held in the Vatican and chaired by Bishop Charles Morerod, secretary general of the commission whom the Pope recently appointed as bishop of Lausanne, Geneve et Fribourg, Switzerland.
The themes to be studied are:
— monotheism
— the significance of the Church’s social doctrine in the broader context of Christian doctrine
— the question of methodology in modern theology, its perspectives, principles and criteria
A Vatican statement today noted that «a significant contribution» to this last subject was already made in the earlier five-year period of 2004-2008.
