Pope Benedict XVI to Celebrate Vespers at Sistine Chapel

VATICAN CITY, OCT. 30, 2012 (Zenit.org).- Pope Benedict XVI will preside at a celebration of Vespers in the Sistine Chapel tomorrow evening. The liturgy will commemorate the 500th anniversary of the inauguration of the ceiling painted by Michelangelo. The masterpiece was painted between 1508 and 1512.

Pope Julius II, who also entrusted the famed artist of the Pieta, celebrated the completion of the Michaelango's work with a celebration of Vespers on October 31st, 1512.

Among the biblical scenes or personages depicted are the Creation, Adam & Eve, Noah, and the Prophets.
