Pope Francis Receives King Letsie III of Lesotho

Discuss Continuing Collaboration Between State and Holy See

Pope Francis received King Letsie III of Lesotho, along with his wife, Queen Masenate Mohato Seeiso in the Vatican Apostolic Palace this morning.

The royal couple also met with Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Vatican Secretary of State, an Archbishop Dominique Mamberti, Secretary for Relations with States, after meeting with the Pope.

According to a communique released by the Holy See, the Holy Father and the King of Lesotho discussed the continuing collaboration between the State and the Church, particularly in regards to the importance of religious freedom.

“Appreciation was expressed for the commitment of the Sovereign and the Government to prioritising health care and education, and for the significant ecclesial contribution in the fields of charity, justice and peace,” the communique stated.

The conversation between Pope Francis and King Letsie III concluded with a discussion on the political and economic situation of the country.
