Placido Domingo was at Pope Francis’ General Audience yesterday and the two exchanged heartfelt greetings.
According to Vatican Radio, the famous Spanish tenor said. “I would love to one day sing for Pope Francis who speaks my native language, as I did for Paul VI, John Paul II, and Benedict XVI.”
The opera star, who emotionally kissed the Pontiff’s ring, was accompanied by his wife, children and grandchildren.
He noted it was a pleasure ‘just to live the experience as a family, of being in the presence of the Pope,” and called it a moment of “great emotion and a privilege.”
On Twitter, later in the day,  Domingo posted two messages: the first, “Thank you Holy Father ! Gracias a Santo Padre. Grazie Santo Padre!” and the second, “What an emotional experience ! Thank you Holy Father!”
