A unique exhibition of Jubilee Bulls from the Vatican Secret Archives has opened in Rome.
In a press conference held in Rome on Tuesday, the president of Opera Romana Pellegrinaggi, Monsignor Liberio Andreatta, and prefect of the Vatican Secret Archives, Bishop Serio Pagano, gave journalists an inside look at the exhibit, “Peregrinatio Sancta Le Bolle dei Giubilei dall’Archivio Segreto Vaticano” of bulls– the name taken from the lead seal (bulla) pendant from the papal document.
“For the first time,” Monsignor Andreatta said, “the public can see these important, original documents, from the first Jubilee in history proclaimed by Pope Boniface VIII in 1300 until the last Great Jubilee proclaimed by Pope Saint John Paul II in 2000.”
“It’s a truly unique and exceptional occasion to admire these precious documents that come from the Vatican Secret Archives and deepen their importance from a historical, religious, and cultural point of view.”
In general, one cannot see these original documents, the parchments and registers, because they are kept where only scholars can be granted access, in the Vatican Secret Archives.
However, thanks to the Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy, now visitors can appreciate them and discover their historical meaning and importance.

The exhibition is held at the Palazzo del Vicariato Vecchio, in Via della Pigna 13/A in Rome and will be open every day, May 3 – July 31 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
The ticket office is also located on Via della Pigna 13/A from 10 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. The full ticket price is 10 Euro, but discounts are available for: children and young people aged between 6 and 17 years; seniors over 65 years old; students up to 25 years of age, on presentation of a valid Student Card; family of 4 (up to 2 adults and to 2 children aged between 6 and 17 years); holders of Roma Cristiana tickets; all the pilgrims who have booked a pilgrimage; Priests and religious; Groups of more than 15 people; official tour guides; Alitalia clients (with boarding card from/ to Rome); clients of Federalberghi Hotels: showing a stamped coupon of the hotel- Roma Pass owners.
Those who can enter for free include: children 0-5 years; visitors with certification of invalidity of over 74%; companion of a disabled visitor; and tour guides with a group.
