Cardinal Claudio Hummes will represent Pope Francis at Brazil’s 17th National Eucharistic Congress, to be held in Belem from Aug. 15 to 21.
The congress will run as Rio de Janeiro hosts the Olympic games.
Cardinal Hummes was officially designated the Pope’s representative in a Latin-language letter released by the Vatican on Saturday.
Cardinal Hummes will be accompanied by two clerics of the Archdiocese of Belém:
1. Fr. Vladian Silva Alves: Canon of the Cathedral Chapter and Rector of the São Pio X Major Seminary
2. Fr. Ronaldo De Souza Menezes, Parish Priest of the São Geraldo Magela Parish and Director of the Museum of Sacred Art
