Pope Francis is sending some of the Vatican’s own relief workers and first responders to the earthquake victims of Italy, particularly those of the town of Amatrice, which was completely destroyed in Wednesday’s quakes and aftershocks.
The death toll from the quakes is over 250.
A statement from the Holy See Press Office said the six firefighters and Gendarmerie would help Italy’s Civil Protection workers search for survivors still under the rubble and assist those already rescued.
