Pope Francis today concluded his address after praying the midday Angelus by assuring his prayers for the peoples of Central America, especially those of Costa Rica and Nicaragua.
On Thursday, Hurricane Otto hit southern Nicaragua and northern Costa Rica, managing to stay strong enough as it passed over Central America that it was still rated as a tropical cyclone.
Its landfall location was the farthest south on record in Central America.
Just around an hour after the hurricane hit, a 7.0 earthquake centered off the coast of Nicaragua was also registered.
The Pope also assured his prayers for the people of northern Italy, where torrential rainfall has caused rivers to overflow. Among the cities affected is Turin.
