Pope Francis received Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Austria, Sebastian Kurz, in audience on March 5, 2018.
According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office, the discussions were cordial, and highlighted the good existing relations and fruitful collaboration between the Holy See and Austria.
«The importance of the protection of life and the family and the promotion of the common good of society, especially with regard to the weakest sectors of the population» were highlighted, the statement noted.
«Mention was made,» it continued, «of the country’s contribution within the European Union and the need for solidarity between peoples.»
Finally, attention turned to various current international issues, including peace, nuclear disarmament and migration.
After meeting with the Pope, the German Chancellor met with Vatican Secretary of State, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, and Under-Secretary for Relations with States, Msgr. Antoine Camilleri.
