Pope Francis met with President of the Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, this morning.
According to a statement released by the Holy See Press Office this morning, their discussions were cordial, and the parties evoked the good existing relations between the Holy See and Armenia.
“It was shown,” it added, “that the inauguration in the Vatican Gardens of the statute of Saint Gregory of Narek, Doctor of the Church, is an opportunity to promote further these relations, as well as those between the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Catholic Church.”
“Reference,” it continued, “was then made to the regional political context, with hope for the solution of situations of conflict, and other current international issues were touched upon, as well as the condition of Christians and religious minorities, especially in theatres of war.”
After meeting with the Pope, the president met with Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin and Secretary for Relations with States, Archbishop Paul Gallagher.
Pope Francis visited Armenia, June 24-26, 2016.
