The Holy Father went to Naples on June 21, 2019.
This visit to Southern Italy was announced on Feb. 11, 2019, in a statement by Director ad interim of the Holy See Press Office, Alessandro Gisotti.
The reason for Francis’ visit was to take part in the Meeting on the subject “Theology after Veritatis Gaudium in the Context of the Mediterranean,” organized by the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Southern Italy — Saint Louis Section — of Naples.
The Pope arrived in the capital of Campania at about 9 a.m. The Holy Father was welcomed by Cardinal Crescenzio Sepe, Archbishop of Naples and Grand Chancellor of the Faculty; by Monsignor Francesco Marino, Bishop of Nola, and by Father Arturo Sosa Abascal, Superior General of the Society of Jesus.
The meeting’s public session was held in the Square in front of the faculty. The Pope gave an address focused on the subject of the meeting.
ZENIT is translating that address from Italian and will bring it in English to our readers as soon as possible.
After lunch, the Holy Father returned to Rome in the afternoon.
