Unites Two Dioceses in Canada

Resignation from the office of apostolic administrator of the Military Ordinariate of the Netherlands and appointment of new apostolic administrator

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the office of apostolic administrator “ad nutum Sanctae Sedis” for the Military Ordinariate of the Netherlands, presented by Bishop Joseph Maria Punt.

His Holiness has appointed Bishop Everardus Johannes de Jong, titular of Cariama and auxiliary of Roermond, as apostolic administrator “ad nutum Sanctae Sedis” of the Military Ordinariate of the Netherlands.

 

Resignation of bishop of Haarlem-Amsterdam, Netherlands, and appointment of successor

The Holy Father accepted the resignation of Bishop Jozef Maria Punt from the pastoral care of the diocese of Haarlem-Amsterdam in the Netherlands.

He was succeeded by Bishop Johannes Willibrordus Maria Hendriks, currently coadjutor of the same diocese.

 

Union “in persona episcopi” of the dioceses of Mont-Laurier and Saint-Jérôme, Canada, and appointment of bishop of the two dioceses

The Holy Father has united “in persona episcopi” of the diocese with that of Mont-Laurier and Saint-Jérôme, at the same time appointing Bishop Raymond Poisson of Saint-Jérôme also as bishop of Mont-Laurier.

Bishop Raymond Poisson

Bishop Raymond Poisson was born on 30 April 1958 in Saint-Hyacinthe, Québec. He carried out his studies at the Seminary of the Holy Trinity at Saint-Bruno and at the Collège André Grasset, and was appointed as priest on 9 December 1983 for the diocese of Saint-Jean-Longueuil. He obtained a bachelor’s degree at the Theological Faculty of Montréal. From 1987 to 1989 he studied at the Pontifical Gregorian University, obtaining a doctorate in theology.

After his studies in Rome, he was appointed as special secretary of the bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil, Bishop Bernard Hubert, also holding the office of vicar and then parish priest of Saint-Georges in the episcopal city. From 1995 to 2007 he was appointed as parish priest of the con-cathedral of Saint-Antoine de Padoue. He subsequently served as parish priest of the Sainte-Marguerite-d’Younville and rector of the Basilica of Sainte-Anne of Varennes.

On 1 May 2012, he was appointed as auxiliary bishop of Saint-Jérôme and received episcopal ordination the following 15 June. On 8 September 2015, he was appointed as bishop of Joliette. On 18 May he was appointed as coadjutor bishop of Saint-Jérôme. On 21 May 2019, he became bishop of Saint-Jérôme by succession.

 

Appointment of bishop of Telšiai, Lithuania

The Holy Father has appointed as bishop of Telšiai, Lithuania, Bishop Algirdas Jurevičius, titular of Materiana and auxiliary of Kaunas.

Bishop Algirdas Jurevičius

Bishop Algirdas Jurevičius was born on 24 March 1972 in Vievis, in the diocese of Kaišiadoris. After carrying out his primary studies in his home town, he attended the musical Conservatory of J. Tallat-Kelpšs in Vilnius. From 1986 to 1991 he led the choir and served as the organist of the Church of Saint Ann in Vievis. In 1991 he taught religion in the secondary school of Senvagė in Vilnius. From 1991 to 1996 he attended the interdiocesan seminary of Kaunas until his priestly

Ordination on 26 December 1996 from the Cathedral of Kaišiadoris.

He then continued his formation between 1996 and 1998 with a master’s degree in dogmatic theology at the Catholic Faculty of Theology of the Vytautas Magnus University of Kaunas. Fr om 1997 to 1998 he was parish liar of Kaišiadoris and formatter in the seminary of Kaunas; from 1998 to 2000 he was parish administrator of Aukštadvaris and of Vytautavas; chaplain in a school of Catholic religion. From 2000 to 2004 he studied at the “Philosophisch-Teologische Hochschule Sankt Georgen” in Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany, and was awarded a doctorate in pastoral theology.

From 2001 to 2004 he was assistant in the pastoral care of Polish faithful in Hanau, diocese of Fulda, and responsible for the pastoral care of Lithuanians in Stuttgart.

From 2004, until his appointment as auxiliary bishop, he served as diocesan bursar, member of the diocesan presbyteral council, member of the council of consultors, vicar general of the diocese and professor in the major seminary of Vilnius.

Elected to the see of Materiana and appointed as auxiliary bishop of Kaunas on 2 July 2018, he received episcopal consecration on 19 August of the same year. Within the Lithuanian Episcopal Conference he is responsible for doctrinal questions of the Church and, since 1 March 2019, until the entry of the new archbishop, he was apostolic administrator of Kaunas.

He is the author of various publications of a theological and pastoral nature.

 

Appointment of apostolic nuncio in the Russian Federation

The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Giovanni d’Aniello, titular of Paestum, currently apostolic nuncio in Brazil, as apostolic nuncio in the Russian Federation.
