(ZENIT News / Saúl, 02.06.2024).- The Pastoral Office of the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for WYD Seoul 2027 has taken a significant stride in the preparations for the upcoming World Youth Day by convening the Preliminary Research Team. This marks the inaugural initiative as the city gears up to host the global event in 2027, reflecting the commitment of the Archdiocese of Seoul to ensuring a profound and impactful experience for the youth participants.

Comprising a diverse assembly of over 40 members, the Preliminary Research Team brings together clergies, consecrated individuals, and dynamic young minds, all unified in their dedication to contributing to the spiritual and organizational dimensions of WYD Seoul 2027. In its inaugural meeting held on January 25, the team set the stage for a collaborative journey that will unfold through scheduled sessions extending from February to June. This initial gathering served as a pivotal moment to commence discussions and insights aimed at shaping the trajectory of youth ministry and establishing the foundational principles for the forthcoming World Youth Day.

“In bringing together this dynamic team, we are not only laying the groundwork for WYD Seoul 2027 but also fostering a space for profound spiritual reflection and collaboration,” remarked Fr. Peter Ju-yul Yang, the Executive Secretary of the LOC. “The diverse perspectives and expertise within the Preliminary Research Team will undoubtedly enrich our preparations, ensuring that World Youth Day in Seoul becomes a transformative experience for all participants.”

In the wake of Seoul’s announcement as the host city for WYD 2027, the Archdiocese of Seoul swiftly established the Local Organizing Committee (LOC), positioning itself as the executive authority entrusted with the meticulous planning and execution of the global youth event. Currently in its initial phase, the LOC is poised for progressive growth and development over the coming months. The committee presently consists of three integral components: the Pastoral Office, spearheading spiritual and pastoral considerations; the Planning Office, managing strategic planning; and the Foundation Secretariat, overseeing foundational and administrative aspects. The formation of the Preliminary Research Team is a testament to the LOC’s proactive approach in laying the groundwork for an inspiring and transformative World Youth Day in 2027.
