Steffen Seibert, the Berlin government spokesman, announced that German Chancellor Angela Merkel would be meeting Pope Francis on February 21st, according to DPA news agency.
The Holy Father and Chancellor Merkel are expected to discuss several issues including interreligious dialogue, globalization, international crisis and the role of Europe in the world. Chancellor Merkel last visited Pope Francis in May 2013, two months after the Holy Father’s election to the papacy.
Chancellor Merkel is scheduled to meet with French President Francois Hollande prior to her meeting with the Holy Father to discuss her country’s presidency of the G7 as well as developments in Ukraine.
