Cardinal Winning, 76, has left the Victoria Infirmary where he was admitted June 8. His public engagements have been canceled until November, said Ronnie Convery, director of communications for the archdiocese.
Doctors believe the cardinal will be able to make a full recovery.
The cardinal has been inundated with cards and messages of good will, including a telegram from John Paul II.
The Pope´s message reads: «Having learnt of your illness I wish you to know that I am close to you in prayer at this time. I entrust you to the loving care of Our Lady and with affection I impart my Apostolic Blessing as a pledge of grace and peace in our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Ioannes Paulus PP II»
In the interim period, Monsignor James Clancy, vicar general, remains in charge of the day-to-day business of the archdiocese.
