(ZENIT News / Managua, 21.08.2023).- On Saturday afternoon, August 19, the police of the anti-Catholic Nicaraguan regime and some officials of the Judicial Power appeared in the Managua residence of the Jesuits who ran the Central American University, expropriated by Daniel Ortega’s Government three days earlier.

Despite their having shown they were proprietors of the place and that the house was different from the owner of the property of the University — stolen earlier by the Government –, the Authorities ordered the Jesuits to vacate the property, ignoring them and arguing that the house was the property of the State.

“The evicted Jesuits are well and in a safe place,” explained the Jesuits later in a press release. However, the Central American Province of the Society of Jesus “condemns this abuse and expresses its confidence that the Lord of History will continue to welcome under His banner the Jesuits of Nicaragua at this time.”

Only three days earlier, on August 16, the Jesuits were expelled from the University they ran in Managua, accused, without proofs, of terrorism, betrayal of the homeland and conspiracy. “This is a Government policy that violates systematically human rights and seems to have as its objective the consolidation of a totalitarian State,” said the Religious of the Congregation of which Pope Francis is a member.

The Central American University was founded in 1963 by the Society of Jesus. In a press release of the Religious Congregation, they hold the Government of Nicaragua responsible “for all the damages against the students, teaching [and] administrative staff and other workers of the University and of the cultural patrimony of the said country, which stems from such an unjustified accusation and from the order of seizure of all real estate, furniture, and economic assets of the University in favour of the State of Nicaragua.”

In response to this measure of the dictatorial regime, the United States Government restricted the VISA to 100 Nicaraguan officials related to the Ortega-Murillo marriage, which tyrannizes the country.
