According to a communique released today by the Holy See, the Bilateral Commission of the Holy See and the State of Palestine, held a Plenary Session today in the Vatican. The meeting was a follow-up to the last session which was held in Ramallah in January of this year with goal of concluding a Global Agreement between the two states.

The talks were chaired by Msgr. Antoine Camilleri, under-secretary for the Holy See’s Relations with States and Ambassador Rawan Sulaiman, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Multilateral Affairs of the State of Palestine.

“Taking up the issues already examined at an informal level, the Commission noted with great satisfaction the progress achieved in formulating the text of the Agreement, which deals with essential aspects of the life and activity of the Catholic Church in Palestine, and encouraged the efforts of the joint technical group, urging it to complete the discussions on the remaining parts of the text, the formulation of which is already at an advanced stage,” the communique stated.

The group will plan on working together in preparation for the next plenary meeting of the Bilateral Commission which is scheduled to meet in early 2014.
