The Mexican Episcopal Conference (CEM) dedicated its assembly to the theme «The Formation of Disciple-Pastors for the Mexico of Today.»
«We want to form priests so that they promote justice; priests who are free and respectful of all of people so that they teach [people] to live in respect and continual dialogue and become peacemakers; priests who are humble and at the service of others, principally the neediest, who always manifest the love of the Father and the mercy of his Son Jesus Christ; joyful priests who are faithful to their vocational choice, so that docile to the Holy Spirit, they know how to share their lives, and give them, if necessary, for the love of their people,» a communiqué from the conference stated.
The note was signed by Archbishop Carlos Aguiar Retes of Tlalnepantla, and Auxiliary Bishop Víctor Rodríguez Gómez of Texcoco, president and secretary-general of CEM, respectively.
The bishops’ conference also released a 10-point statement at the conclusion of the assembly, exhorting the faithful to «live in accordance with the vocation you’ve received.»
The last point of that statement notes Benedict XVI’s 60th anniversary of priestly ordination this June 29, encouraging that prayers are offered for him before Christ in the Eucharist.
