Supposing that a large group of bloggers will be in Rome for the beatification of Pope John Paul II, the meeting has been scheduled for the following day, May 2.
The Pontifical Councils for Culture and Social Communications are sponsoring the event. The respective presidents of those two councils will participate, as will the director of the Vatican press office, Jesuit Father Federico Lombardi.
A communiqué from the culture council explained that the meeting will include two panels. The first will consist of five bloggers who will present some key issues, then opening the floor to general discussion. The second will include representatives of Church communication, who will talk about initiatives «aimed at ensuring an effective engagement by the Church with bloggers.»
The meeting is open to all, but bloggers who wish to attend need to apply by emailing blogmeet@pccs.it and sending a link to their blog. As space is limited to 150 seats and there is a desire to have a representation of the entire blogosphere, entrance passes and further details will be distributed with a view to the diversity of language and geography, typology of blogs (institutional or private, multivoice or personal), subjects of blogs, and the timeliness of requests.
Simultaneous translation will be provided for Italian, English, French, Polish and Spanish.
