HUNTINGTON, Indiana, FEB. 9, 2011 (Zenit.org).- A new CD that helps children prepare through song for the upcoming liturgical changes is one of many resources designed to introduce the new translation of the Roman Missal.
Our Sunday Visitor is releasing a variety of resources to prepare the faithful for the implementation this Advent of the Third Edition of the Roman Missal.
David Dziena, parish acquisition editor for the publishing company, who has overseen the development of these resources, commented to ZENIT on the «unique» nature of the children’s CD. «This is a one-of-a-kind resource,» he stated.
The CD, «And With Your Spirit: Songs for Deepening Children’s Understanding of the Mass,» offers a collection by John Burland and Jo Ann Paradise to help young people learn the revised prayers of the liturgy. It aims to aid in sacrament preparation, religious education, and in the home.
Dziena explained that Our Sunday Visitor’s goal has been to create «innovative, yet practical products for the ‘person in the pew.'»
For example, a laminated pew card lists the revised translations of prayers and responses with new phrases in bold for use as a reference during Mass.
«This helps users see what is truly different and assists them in learning the new text faster,» Dziena said.
Other resources include an explanatory pamphlet about why the missal is changing, and a lectio divina study book called «The Mass in Scripture» that explores the biblical foundations of the liturgy.
For children and families, there are posters, colorful charts, books and guides for parents and catechists to explain the translation changes to youth.
Most of these resources are already available for purchase and use on a personal and parish level.
