Tanzanian Chaplain Elected Superior of Apostles of Jesus

NAIROBI, Kenya, FEB. 26, 2002 (Zenit.org).- A Tanzanian who has been the chaplain at St. Vincent Charity Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio, was elected superior general of the Apostles of Jesus congregation.

Father Augustine Njuu was elected Feb. 12 as the fifth superior general since the foundation of the congregation in 1968 in Moroto, Uganda. The first superior general was co-founder Father John Marengoni, a Comboni missionary.

The congregation works in Uganda, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Sudan, South Africa and the United States. It has about 320 priests and eight lay brothers.
