150 provincial and general superiors representing active female religious institutes meet at the 140th Plenary Assembly of the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious in Poland at the Secretariat of the Polish Bishops’ Conference.

This year’s assembly focuses on the problems of formation. The nuns will also raise current issues related to the consecrated life, the life of the Church and the activities of the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious.

“We appreciate these days as a time of our common prayer, strengthening and building unity”, said m. Maksymilla Pliszka BDNP, chairwoman of the Council of Major Superiors of Women Religious in Poland.

On the first day of the meeting, the Apostolic Nuncio in Poland, Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio presided the Holy Mass for the deliberations and then had a meeting with the nuns. The following days will be devoted mostly to reflections and discussions about formation. The sisters will also traditionally meet with Bishop Artur Miziński, secretary-general of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, who will share with them current information on the life of the Church.

17,553 nuns serve in such areas of ecclesiastical and social life in Poland and abroad as educational work, various forms of youth assistance, catechization and other forms of evangelization, as well as spiritual and material help.

The assembly will end on Thursday, September 26.
