Pope Francis on November 15, 2017, appointed as bishop of the diocese of Teixeira de Freitas-Caravelas, Brazil, Bishop Jailton de Oliveira Lino, P.S.D.P., currently bursar of the “Nossa Senhora Aparecida” Delegation based in Porto Alegre.
Bishop Jailton de Oliveira Lino, P.S.D.P.
Bishop Jailton de Oliveira Lino, P.S.D.P., was born on January 28, 1965, in Feira de Santana, in the archdiocese of the same name, in the State of Bahia. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Pontifical Catholic University of Porto Alegre. He then attended a course in psychology at the University of Rio dos Sinos (UNISINOS) in Porto Alegre.
He gave his religious vows on January 1, 1985, in the Congregation of the Poor Servants of Divine Providence (Don Calabria), and was ordained a priest on December 17, 1988.
Within his Congregation he has held the following offices: formator and superior of the Community of Farroupilha-RS (1989-1998); vice-provincial and master of novices at Porto Alegre (2002-2008); and provincial delegate for the “Nossa Senhora Aparecida” Delegation based in Porto Alegre (2008-2014). Since 2015 he has served as bursar for the same Delegation.
