Los Angeles: Pope Appoints New Auxiliary Bishop

Pope Francis has appointed as auxiliary bishop of Los Angeles, Msgr. Marc V. Trudeau, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, currently rector of Saint John’s Seminary in Camarillo, assigning him the titular see of Tinisa di Proconsolare.

Msgr. Marc V. Trudeau was born on 20 May 1957 in Hollywood, California, in the archdiocese of Los Angeles.

He is a twin, a former dentist and he is proud to say he put himself through school working long hours as a stock clerk and box boy for a local Vons grocery store. He is also a proud Trojan, with two degrees from the University of Southern California. And he is a cancer survivor.

He joins five other active auxiliary bishops in assisting Archbishop José H. Gomez with the spiritual care of the nation’s largest archdiocese.  

Since his ordination in 1991, Bishop-elect Trudeau served in several parishes in the archdiocese, worked as a cardinal’s secretary and has been responsible for the formation of LA’s future priests as rector of St. John’s Seminary since 2014.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (1981-1985). He carried out his ecclesiastical studies at Saint John’s Seminary in Camarillo (1986-1991).

He was ordained a priest for the archdiocese of Los Angeles on August 6, 1991.

After ordination, he was vicar of the “Saint James the Less Parish” at La Crescenta (1991-1995), administrator of the “Saint Philip the Apostle Parish” in Pasadena (1995-2001), pastor of the “Saint Pius Parish” (2001-2004), personal secretary to the archbishop (2004-2010), pastor of the “Saint Margaret Mary Alacoque Parish” in Lomita (2010-2013), vice-rector of the “Saint John’s Seminary” in Camarillo (2013-2014) and member of the Presbyteral Council (1993-1999). In 2013 he was appointed as vicar forane.

Since 2014 he has served as rector of Saint John’s Seminary in Camarillo.

Aside from English, he knows Spanish.
