The Casa del Migrante San Juan Diego and San Francisco, in the city of Matamoros, the Mexican state of Tamaulipas, bordering the southern part of the US state of Texas, received three tons of food, plus a donation in money, from the international organization of the Knights of Columbus of the United States. According to information from the Diocese of Matamoros, sent to Fides News Agency, it is one of the joint initiatives promoted by the Bishops of this border region to assist migrants, through the Social Pastoral in the north of Tamaulipas and the Caritas of Texas.
«At the moment, solidarity is focused on Matamoros, considering the arrival of many migrant brothers in this region,» said the Bishop of Brownsville, Mgr. Daniel Flores, who along with his Auxiliary, Mario Aviles, participated in the delivery of aid. He then added: «We invite everyone to continue to support the migrant community, without judging and condemning.»
The Bishop of Matamoros, Eugenio Lira, commented: «It is a nice sign of solidarity of the Knights of Columbus, who made an effort to support this Casa del Migrante, where we try to reach out to our brothers and sisters who, for various reasons, have had to leave their homes.
The delivery of the aid was an opportunity for the Bishops to meet migrants from southern Mexico and Central America who are temporarily hosted in the Casa del Migrante, to listen to their anxieties, needs, sadness, and illusions, before sharing the dinner in an atmosphere of fraternity and hope. The members of the Knights of Columbus of the diocese of Matamoros, the coordinating team of the Social Pastoral, the collaborators of the Casa del Migrante, as well as journalists from both countries were also present.
