At the general audience on May 8, 2019, Pope Francis saluted the figure of Maria Concepcion Cabrera Arias de Armida (1882-1937), beatified in Mexico four days earlier: a «brave witness» of God.
Known as «Conchita», this mother who had nine children and remained a widow after 17 years of marriage, inspired the founding of five religious institutes, including the Missionaries of the Holy Spirit.
She testified «the salvific value of the Cross of Christ, inspiring the foundation of various religious and secular institutions,» the Pope said from St. Peter’s Square. And to invite: «Let’s thank God for his brave witness! An applause for Blessed Conchita! «
The beatification mass was presided over by Cardinal Angelo Becciu, Prefect of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints, at the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Guadalupe, in Mexico City, Mexico, on May 4th.
