The contributions and dedication of women, throughout history and evident during this health emergency, is worthy of recognition and praise…

Pope Francis expressed this following his Regina Caeli address, Monday, April 13, 2020, on Easter Monday, recalling how in today’s Gospel, it was women who gave the disciples the proclamation of Jesus’ Resurrection.

Francis today recalled the remarkable example of Our Blessed Mother Mary, and went on to remember all the precious ways women contribute, always, and naming how so, during this emergency.

“Today,” the Holy Father said, “I would like to recall with you how much many women do, also in this time of health emergency, to take care of others: women doctors, nurses, agents of the forces of order and of prisons, employees of stores of goods of basic needs . . . and so many mothers and sisters and grandmothers that are shut-in at home with the whole family, with children, elderly and disabled persons.”

“Sometimes,” Francis acknowledged, “they are at risk of suffering violence for living together, of which they bear too great a weight.”

Pope Francis encouraged those following along to join him in praying for them.

“May the Lord,” he prayed, “give them the strength and may our communities be able to support them together with their families.”

“May the Lord,” the Pope concluded, “give us the courage of the women to go forward always.”

After the prayer, the Pontiff, deviated from his prepared remarks, to remember those countries hit gravely by coronavirus, especially Italy and the United States. He reminded them: “Don’t forget: the Pope prays for you…”

A few moments after concluding his remarks, the Pope surprisingly went to the window, and blessed an empty St. Peter’s Square.
