On July 3, 2019, Pope Francis appointed Monsignor Indunil Janakaratne Kodithuwakku Kankanamalage Secretary — Number 2 — of the Pontifical Council for Inter-Religious Dialogue.
A native of the diocese of Badulla, Sri Lanka, he has been the Dicastery’s Under-Secretary — Number 3 — since 2012. Previously, he was a teacher at the Faculty of Missiology of the Pontifical Urban University.
The office of Secretary has been vacant since May 25, when Monsignor Miguel Angel Ayuso Guixot was elected President, succeeding French Cardinal Jean-Louis Tauran, who died on July 5, 2018.
