Election of auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Făgăraş and Alba Iulia, Romania

The Synod of the Romanian Greek Catholic Major Archiepiscopal Church has elected as auxiliary bishop of the archdiocese of Făgăraş and Alba Iulia, Romania, the Reverend Cristian Dumitru Crişan, to whom the Holy Father had granted his consent, assigning him the titular See of Abula.

Reverend Cristian Dumitru Crişan

The Reverend Cristian Dumitru Crişan was born on 11 October 1981 in Reghin, Mureş County, in the archdiocese of Făgăraş and Alba Iulia.

After entering the seminary, from 2000 to 2003 he studied at the Faculty of Greek Catholic Theology in Blaj and was subsequently sent to Rome for the Propaedeutic Integrative Year, organized by the Congregation for the Oriental Churches at the Pontifical Oriental Institute. In 2007 he received a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Pontifical Saint Anselm Athenaeum in Rome, and in 2012, his doctorate in canon law from the Pontifical Lateran University. From 2016 to 2017 he studied in the Faculty of Educational Sciences at the Catholic Institute of Paris in affiliation with the University of Paris IV “Sorbonne” and in 2018 he obtained the “Emouna – the Amphitheatre of Religions” certificate from the University of Political Science in Paris.

He was ordained a priest on 11 May 2008 in Bucharest.

In 2012 he was appointed as parish priest of “Saint-George” of Paris and rector of the Romanian Greek-Catholic Mission in France.

Since 2013 he has served as notary of the Synod of Bishops of the Romanian Greek-Catholic Church.

At the Provincial Court of First Instance of the archdiocese of Paris he was first defender of the bond, and since 2016, judge.

On 9 April 2018 he was appointed as apostolic visitator for the Romanian Greek-Catholic faithful in Western Europe, and on 11 October of the same year, national coordinator of the pastoral care of Greek Catholics in Italy.

He is a member of the Synodal Commission for the compilation of the Particular Law of the Romanian Greek-Catholic Chu

The Synod of the Romanian Major Greek-Catholic Archiepiscopal Church has elected Reverend Călin Ioan Bot as auxiliary bishop of the eparchy of Lugoj, Romania, to whom the Holy Father had granted his consent, assigning him the titular See of Abritto.

Reverend Călin Ioan Bot

The Reverend Călin Ioan Bot was born on 24 July 1970 in Surduc, Sălaj County, eparchy of Cluj-Gherla.

From 1991 to 1995 he studied at the Saint John the Evangelist Theological Institute, affiliated with the Babeş Bolyai State University of Cluj-Napoca, obtaining a licentiate in Theology. In 2003 he attended the Specialization Course for Seminary Formators at the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome, where in 2005 he also obtained a licentiate in spiritual theology.

On 10 September 1995, he was ordained a priest in Tihău by Bishop Vasile Hossu, then eparchial bishop of Cluj-Gherla.

From 1995 to 2000 he served as educational director of the Theological Institute of Saint John the Evangelist of Cluj-Napoca, and from 2005 to 2017, as rector of the same Theological Seminary.

Since 2017 he has held the role of protosyncellus of the eparchy of Cluj-Gherla.
