(ZENIT News / Paris, 09.03.2026).- On Friday, September 25, 2026, Pope Leo XIV will begin his Apostolic Visit to France. That same day, he will participate in a major event at the Stade de France, near Paris, before an audience of 80,000 young people.
This prayer vigil will undoubtedly be one of the highlights of his trip. The Holy Father and the young people will share a historic moment: praying before the Holy Tunic of Christ, which will be presented and fully unfurled in a solemn exhibition. It will also be a first for Leo XIV, making him the first Pope to see the Holy Tunic.
The Holy Tunic is generally displayed only every 50 years. This sacred garment was worn by Jesus Christ during His Passion and is preserved in the Basilica of Argenteuil, near Paris. Undoubtedly, this upcoming exhibition at the Stade de France will be an extraordinary event; indeed, the Holy Tunic is usually shown only every 50 years, with some exceptions, such as during the 2025 Jubilee.
The former Rector of the Basilica of Argenteuil, Father Guy-Emmanuel Cariot, and the shrine’s new Rector, Father Jean-Eudes Gilbert, who has held the position since September 1st, take turns expressing their joy and pride «at being able to present the garment of the Savior’s Passion to Pope Leo XIV.»
«‘That the world may have life” is the motto of the Holy Father’s trip to France; it is, in fact, at the heart of Christ’s Passion that this life is given, poured out, so that the world may have life,» they add, before invoking together: «By Your Holy Tunic save me, Jesus!»
