As an early Christmas gift, Pope Francis has sent envelopes containing telephone cards and Rome metro rail tickets for the city’s poor. Two thousand envelopes will be distributed to the needy of the city.
According to a communique released by the Holy See Press Office, the envelopes will be offered in several locations where aid is offered by the Sisters of Charity. Volunteers as well as Archbishop Konrad Krajewski, the Holy Father’s almoner, will also distribute the gifts to the poor.
“It is the Pope’s Christmas gift to the poorest and most marginalized of the capital,” the press release stated.
ATAC, the Municipal Agency for Transport in Rome, offered 4000 Metro tickets to distribute to the needy.
