Pallium to Be Conferred on Archbishops

VATICAN CITY, JUNE 24, 2001 (ZENIT.org).- John Paul II will preside at a concelebrated Mass this Friday, the feast of Sts. Peter and Paul, at 6:30 p.m. in St. Peter´s Square during which he will confer the pallium on a number of metropolitan archbishops.

The pallium, a circular band of white wool with pendants hanging in front and back on which are embroidered six black crosses, is placed on the shoulders of metropolitan archbishops and symbolizes their authority.
