ROME, JULY 5, 2001 (Zenit.org).- Rome´s soccer team will give John Paul II the first commemorative T-shirt marking its status as the Italian League´s new champions.
The T-shirt, with red and yellow stripes and the word «champion» painted in the colors of the Italian flag, has the Pope´s surname, Wojtyla, and the number 1 on the back.
Team president Franco Sensi explained that the number is because of the Pope´s position as goalkeeper when he was young. The players will give the Holy Father his gift after their vacation, Sensi added.
