Cardinal Roger Etchegaray, the special papal envoy, expressed his view to a group of 10 Mexican bishops on Monday.
Bishop Carlos Aguiar Retes of the Diocese of Texcoco, in the state of Mexico, told the press that the cardinal was positively impressed by the «profound values» of the Indian culture.
Last weekend Cardinal Etchegaray visited Indian communities in the southern state of Chiapas. This state has seen turmoil since the 1994 uprising by the Zapatista guerrillas.
