Greek-Melkite Leader Urges Saddam Toward Peace

MILAN, Italy, SEPT. 18, 2002 (ZENIT.orgAvvenire).- Greek-Melkite Patriarch Gregory III Laham of Antioch sent a letter to Saddam Hussein and to all Arab heads of state, urging them to be responsible in fostering peace.

The Catholic patriarch announced the news during a press conference Tuesday in Lodi, a northern Italian town he is visiting.

The patriarch, who was patriarchal vicar in Jerusalem for 26 years, emphasized that it «must be said forcefully that the last word is not war but peace.»
