The Fena press agency said the man, charged Wednesday, was identified only by the initials «A.A.» Police gave no further details on the suspect.
The threatening message was sent June 6 to various e-mail addresses, including two news agencies. The writer called himself Ali Muhammed and claimed to speak on behalf of the Mujahedin Islamic Front.
At the time, the Croatian police said there was no danger to the Pope or the faithful. The Vatican minimized the danger, saying the threat was not very credible.
