MADRID, Spain, JUNE 17, 2005 (Zenit.org).- An international contingent of pro-family advocates is behind a massive rally planned in Madrid to counter moves toward same-sex «marriage.»

The Institute for Family Policies (IFP) said that federations representing more than 60 countries and more than 1,000 not-for-profit organizations from 28 nations will participate in a rally this Saturday protesting the Socialist government’s project to legalize homosexual «marriage.»

«The Family Does Matter» is the motto of the rally organized by the Spanish Forum for the Family.

The initiative has the support of the Spanish bishops’ conference, and of Muslim and Jewish representatives.

«It is the greatest international support for a manifestation in the whole of the history of Spanish democracy,» said IFP in a statement. «It is an unprecedented demonstration of international solidarity among» not-for-profit organizations, it said.

«We are in solidarity with what is happening in Spain,» said Jean-Louis Thès, president of Institute for Family Policies in France. «What they want to approve in Spain today, they will try to do tomorrow in France.

«It is part of an international strategy of the homosexual lobby to impose homosexual marriage and adoption, despite the rejection by society and families.»
