At an Oct. 20 Mass inaugurating the new academic year, the president of Mater Ecclesiae, Dominican Father Tommaso Stancati, welcomed students — both religious and lay — from a variety of English-speaking nations in Africa and Asia.

«Our new English section indicates our heightened awareness of the necessity to adapt to what could be defined as a trend in the Catholic Church in the last few decades: The young, yet ancient Churches of Asia and Africa are in fact growing in quality and quantity, and this very vitality represents an important hope for the future of the entire Church,» said Father Stancati.

The opening of an English section, alongside the long-standing Italian section, was in response to numerous requests received by the institute from English-speaking students who wanted to study theology and philosophy in Rome, but in their own language.

Registration at the institute is open until Oct. 31.
