Socially Responsible Businesses

Article: Benedict XVI and the Economy of Communion (Part 1)

As the Holy Father wrote in his latest encyclical, Caritas in Veritate, respect for the dignity of the human person is key to living out the message of Christ in this age and time. The proper purpose of the invention of tools to usher in the age of technological development was to alleviate human suffering.

Businesses that care for human dignity and freedom and built on human values serve to show more effectively, the proper meaning and direction of work, which ought to be an offering to God, a Mass as it were, apart from being a means of sustenance. Neither capitalism nor communism can be socially just if the drive of greed pushes man to become insensitive of his neighbour.
