Article: Pontiff Warns Against Materialism, Individualism
The Holy Father really needs to clarify his comments on “individualism.” As such, there is nothing inherently wrong with individualism unless it goes against the faith or would cause injury to another. If it were not for individualism, mankind, in the secular realm, would not progress as it is the driving force to make things better.
Individualism is also a component of the individual whereby a person has a justified concern for his own well-being. Some call this self-preservation and in this there is nothing wrong as the instinct for it was given to all men as part of their creation by God that they might defend and preserve their lives.
