VATICAN CITY, DEC. 23, 2010 (Zenit.org).- This year, the Vatican is selling special Christmas cards to support the charitable works of Benedict XVI.

The initiative was launched by the Pontifical Council Cor Unum along with the Vatican’s Philatelic and Numismatic Office.

The cards, which are available for purchase at the Vatican post office, illustrate various charitable activities in which this pontifical council is involved.

The cards come with a printed stamp for sending through the Vatican post office.

Among the main objectives of the Pontifical Council Cor Unum is the spread of a genuine culture of charity, through a catechesis that will stimulate Catholic faithful to give personal witness of charity.

L’Osservatore Romano explained, “With the passing of time, and above all with the birth of numerous charitable organizations whose reference is the teaching of the Church, the Vatican council has become the coordinating organism of all this charitable activity, being at the disposition of the particular Churches to ensure a connection between ecclesial realities involved in the area of charity and aid, as well as with international public organisms.”
