ROME, SEPT. 26, 2011 (Zenit.org).- A delegation of the Catholic Association of Latino Leaders are in Rome this week to present to Benedict XVI their response to his encyclical «Caritas in Veritate.»

The leaders arrived in Rome last week for a meeting with Cardinal Peter Turkson, the president of the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace. They were later encouraged to stay a few extra days so as to present their response to the Pope himself on Wednesday.

Robert Aguirre, president of CALL, will greet the Holy Father after the weekly audience on behalf of the association, and present a copy of the 28-page document, titled «Charity in Truth: Our Response in Faith.»

The text is a reflection on Benedict XVI’s most recent encyclical, which was published in 2009.

In a press statement sent to ZENIT, CALL affirms its «vow to act as faithful disciples, trusting the Holy Father as their pastor and shepherd.»

«As Catholic Latino leaders in our country,» said Aguirre, «it is our responsibility to demonstrate that our Catholic identity is defined by what we do. Members of CALL look to Blessed John XXIII’s words, stating that we need to seek ‘to align our professional activity into conformity with the Church’s social teaching.’

«Our ‘Response in Faith’ is our prayer to carry out the mission of the Church in
every aspect of our lives.»

Published in July, the prefaced by a letter to Benedict XVI, which states: «You have called us to recognize the crisis of our day, to set new rules, to re-plan our journey, and to discover new forms of commitment.

«We hear your words, as we have come to recognize that this is ‘an opportunity for discernment, in which to shape a new vision for the future.'»
