VATICAN CITY, JAN. 11, 2012 (Zenit.org).- The Holy See’s efforts are directed toward establishing universal fraternity, said Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone on Monday, during a dinner with the ambassadors accredited to the Holy See.
The Pope’s secretary of state met with the diplomats after their morning audience with the Holy Father. The cardinal told them he appreciates the «delicate task» entrusted them, «at the service of an assiduous and fruitful dialogue» between the Holy See and their respective countries.
Reflecting on the Holy Father’s address, Cardinal Bertone stressed that the 179 ambassadors accredited to the Holy See manifest «the important contribution of the Church in the life of society,» particularly in the areas of health, services and education.
In regard to education, the cardinal seconded the Holy Father’s emphasis on the contribution that young people can make: «With their enthusiasm and their ideals, but also with their expectations and concerns, young people, in fact, offer hope to the world.»
Cardinal Bertone also noted the Pope’s proposals for elements that can help to «overcome the crises,» which are «dramatic expressions of the unease that seems to prevail at the present time.»
These are topics that the Holy See has especially «at heart,» the cardinal affirmed, and which «animate its action.»
