6.3 Magnitude Quake Strikes Southern Iran

At the end of today’s general audience, Pope Francis made an appeal for those affected by strong earthquake that struck southern Iran yesterday. The Holy Father called on the faithful to pray for those affected by the natural disaster.

The 6.3 magnitude quake destroyed the town of Kaki, which was located near the epicenter of the earthquake. According to Iran’s, IRNA News Agency, the earthquake did not damage the Bushehr nuclear power plant.

The death toll as of now is 37, with over 850 people seriously injured from the quake.

Pope Francis prayed for the victims while expressing his “closeness to the people affected by this calamity.”

“Let us pray for all these brothers and sisters of Iran,” the Holy Father said.
