President Mahmoud Abbas to Meet With Pope Francis

Visit Falls on the Day Before Canonization of Palestine’s First Saints

Mahmoud Abbas, the president of the State of Palestine will meet with Pope Francis on Saturday.

According to the Pope’s weekly agenda, Mahmoud is expected to arrive at 10:30am and will take place in the Holy Father’s private study.

The meeting will take place on the eve of the canonization of two nuns born in the Holy Land, an event that the Palestinian president will attend.

Mother Marie Alphonsine and Mariam Baouardy, both born in Palestine, will be the first two saints from the country.

News of the visit comes on the heels of an agreement between the Holy See and Palestine was signed yesterday. The agreement is seen as recognition of the State of Palestine.
