It's Official: Pope Francis Will Visit Egypt

This Apostolic Visit at End of April Will Mark His 18th Pastoral Visit Outside of Italy

It’s official: Pope Francis is going to Egypt.
According to a statement from the Director of the Holy See Press Office, Greg Burke, on Saturday, March 18, 2017, Pope Francis will make this Apostolic Visit, marking his 18th pastoral visit outside of Italy, at the end of April.
“In response to the invitation from the President of the Republic, the Bishops of the Catholic Church, His Holiness Pope Tawadros II and the Grand Imam of the Mosque of Al Azhar, Sheikh Ahmed Mohamed el-Tayyib,» the statement read, «His Holiness Pope Francis will make an Apostolic trip to the Arab Republic of Egypt from April 28-29, 2017, visiting the city of Cairo.»
«The program of the trip will be published shortly,” it concluded.
