“I give a warm welcome to the Arabic-speaking pilgrims, particularly a delegation from Egypt!”, said Pope Francis during his General Audience of Oct. 4, 2017.
This morning’s General Audience was held at 9:30 in St. Peter’s Square, where the Holy Father Francis met with groups of pilgrims and faithful from Italy and from all over the world.
The Pope spoke in Italian, translated immediately into Arabic by one of his collaborators in the Roman Curia. Francis immediately thanked the Egyptian delegation for ‘the blessing’ of the icon they had brought him depicting the Holy Family’s escaping to Egypt, to escape the oppression and injustice of the King Herod.

“I remember affectionately my Apostolic Visit in your good land and the generous people; the land on which St. Joseph, the Virgin Mary, the Child Jesus and many prophets lived; the land blessed through the centuries by the precious blood of the martyrs and the righteous; the land of coexistence and hospitality; the land of encounter, history and civilization.
“May the Lord bless all of you and protect your country, the Middle East and the whole world, from all terrorism and evil!”
