With these words, the MECC (Middle East Council of Churches) Secretary-General Dr. Souraya Bechealany introduced the presentation of the new Website of that intra-ecclesial ecumenical body, indicated as an instrument to highlight «Spaces of faith and hope», reported Fides News Agency With pages that provide news on the Middle Eastern Churches and on the initiatives of the four departments in which the Council is articulated, bearing witness also to the «beautiful heritage of the past» and opening up to the urgencies of the present time.
The Middle East Council of Churches, founded in 1974 in Nicosia and currently based in Beirut, aims to facilitate the convergence of Middle Eastern Christian communities on topics of common interest and to favor the overcoming of confessions of a confessional nature.
Professor Souraya Bechealany (in the photo), a Maronite Christian, teaches theology at the Université Saint-Joseph de Beyrouth. Souraya was elected secretary-general of the MECC in January 2018, and together with her collaborators, she undertook a process of restructuring the departments of the ecclesial body.
