On September 12, 2019, the Holy Father Francis received in audience, in the Apostolic Vatican Palace, H.E. Mr. Aleksandar Vucic, President of the Republic of Serbia, who met subsequently with His Eminence Cardinal Pietro Parolin, Vatican Secretary of State, accompanied by His Excellency Monsignor Paul Richard Gallagher, Vatican Secretary for Relations with States.

In the course of the cordial and open conversations, satisfaction was expressed over the existing good relations between the Holy See and Serbia, as well as appreciation for the contribution that the Catholic community offers for the good of the entire Nation, especially in the social field.

Subsequently, the situation in the country was discussed and the steps taken towards European integration. Moreover, subjects of common interest were addressed in the regional context, pausing in particular on the importance to promote fruitful collaboration between peoples at the service of peace, and on the positive role that religions can play in the process of reconciliation.
