“It is beautiful that for many years children – missionary carolers have dedicated their service of proclaiming the Good News door to door in order to share this joy of the birth of the Lord Jesus. They do this for a community of their colleagues, unknown brothers and sisters so that the donations collected on this occasion can serve those children,” said Bishop Artur G. Miziński, Secretary-General of the Polish Bishops’ Conference, during a press conference before the “Missionary Carolers to the Children of Amazonia” campaign, which will begin on December 26.
Fr. Tomasz Atłas, national director of the Pontifical Missionary Works in Poland, reminded Pope Francis’ missionary concern, of which missionary carolers are a concrete example. He added that this year’s missionary carolers become special collaborators of the Holy Father for two reasons: first, missionary carolers help this year their peers in the Amazon, which is the region for which Pope Francis convened this year’s Synod; secondly, the Holy Father encourages in this year’s Apostolic Letter on the meaning and importance of the nativity scene to uphold the tradition of building cribs. “Each group of missionary carolers becomes such a living nativity scene that sets out from our parish churches and visits our villages, our towns, our families,” added Fr. Atłas.
In 2018, over 2.7 million PLN (642 000 Euro) was collected for the implementation of 108 projects for children in 10 countries around the world. Last year, the collection was carried out for children in Rwanda and Burundi.
